Mathematics
Each class has a daily mathematics lesson of between 40 and 60 minutes. In these lessons, mathematics teaching covers number (counting, place value, fractions), calculation (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), shape and space and data handling (collecting information and making and interpreting graphs).
The core of maths teaching is the Abacus Maths Scheme but a wide range of other published materials and computer software are also used to support children’s learning.
Learning Number Facts
As part of their mathematical development, children need a ready recall of addition and subtraction facts to 20 and of multiplication tables. Parents will be asked to support the learning of “number bonds” and multiplication-tables as children need to acquire them.
